The boy turns 21... I better say a few words

Here is the speech I gave at Noah's 21st Birthday last night

As you may know, Noah was the result of my 21st birthday party. You could say he was the gift that kept on.. taking.  Although I am very big on tradition, I am quite happy if this tradition isn't passed on thank you very much Noah! I am way too young to be a nana just yet!
Noah was an easy going baby, so easy going he was a month late. Even then it was an effort to get him out of his room. From the moment I found out I was pregnant I made it my mission to introduce him to as much music as I possibly could and instil in him that music, art and literature are an important part of life. So Noah was raised on everything from Chopin, Frank Sinatra, beastie boys, Duran Duran and Sisters of Mercy. Imagine my chagrin when he decided that his first favourite band was.. Hanson....mmmmm ...bop.
Eventually his music taste expanded and although there was a brief moment when told me he didn't like the Ramones ...sorry I don't want to talk about it.. he came around in the end and did what I always wanted him to do and discovered the incredible influence of music.
Once he got past the fascination with “The Day my Bum went Psycho” Noah also learnt the escape and imagination that could be found in books. Like his awesome mother he soaks up the knowledge within the pages of great authors like Dante and Hunter S Thompson. Nothing makes me prouder than hearing Noah say even now if he doesn't know something that he will go look it up. An inquisitive mind is a blessing. And Noah has one.
I encouraged Noah  to question things as he was growing up. Why? Maybe I was watching too much x-files at the time...more so I wanted Noah to realise that if you believe in something you have to fight for it. Be informed and fight. There is strength in having strong beliefs. Even if it is if charmander could beat pikachu in a battle hands down. I have seen this strength in so many aspects of Noah's adult life. Whether it be voicing his strong beliefs on politics and injustices he sees worldwide or fiercely defending his friends this has become the code that he lives by.
Noah's experience with sports was a little less successful. When he was in grade 1 he had a brief time playing soccer. He played with passion and determination until the ball came within 10 feet of him at which time he would fake a dramatic fall rather than attempt to take the kick. The next year I put him in drama.
Noah was great on the stage... when he didn't run off and hide..2 words .little dragon...
Noah is a creative mind and I am so pleased that he has surrounded himself with so many like minded friends. I am grateful to you his friends and family for helping him to become the man he is today.
He has become a respectful and intelligent man who stands up for his beliefs and thinks hard about life.
Whatever direction you decide to go in, Noah. Whatever road you chose to take . Do it with strength, determination and knowing that I am proud of you. It has always been you and me against the world and will be always. Especially when the zombie apocalypse starts. You know you are on my team!
Love you boborso. Happy 21st
